” Thank you”, Rachel smiled, passing by the door. She kept walking next to Brittany, not sure about what she should say. The brunette still couldn’t believe that she had actually accepted the offer of living with someone she just met. It’s not like she had many options, though, because she had to move out fast. Rachel just wished that she was making the right decision.
Her head moved to the side as she heard the question. “Oh, I’m from Brazil. But I moved here to the United States a long time ago with my dads, so I lived good part of my life in Ohio.”, she answered simply. “What about you, Britt?”
“Brazil, huh? I took a capoeira class once, but that’s all the relation I have to the country. Ohio, on the other hand… I grew up in Akron with my mom and little sister. I was so glad to get out of there. I don’t miss much about it.” She sighed. “Well, I do miss Lizzie.” Brittany ran a hand through her hair. “What part of Ohio did you grow up in? I doubt you went to my school, cuz I’m pr-ee sure I would have remembered you.” She quirked an eyebrow as she poked Rachel playfully.

Rachel laughed softly at Brittany, but quickly felt her breath hitch when the taller girl smirked and stuck her tongue to the side. The petite brunette blushed and waited for what the blonde was going to do.
“My place isn’t that far from here so, uhm, follow the yellow-haired girl, I guess.”, Brittany had said, so Rachel simply nodded and began following her. This was going to be a long, and probably awkward, night.
Brittany pushed open the heavy door of the building and stepped out into the night. She paused for a moment, holding it for her companion. A sudden awkward air seemed to fall around them and it sobered her greatly. Brittany wasn’t quite sure of the reason, maybe it was the realization of holy crap, i just met this girl and now we’re going to be living together that created the tension between the pair. Well, that wasn’t going to do. “So, where’re you from anyway, Rae?” She rolled her tongue around in her mouth, amused by the rhyme as she strolled down the city block.

Rachel smiled softly, nodding, “Thank you, Britt.”, she said quietly. She knew that everything the blonde owned would probably be quite a few sizes to big for her. Brittany was tall, and the brunette was petite. Rachel just hoped that the blonde would have a few older, smaller clothes.
“So, uhm, shall we go now?”, she asked unsure, nodding towards the exit.
Rachel gestured towards the exit and Brittany realized she should probably direct her to her new home. “Of course! Sorry, I’m a bit, well—” She looked down at herself and raised her eyebrows. “Sluggish, shall we say?” The blonde smirked and stuck her tongue into the side of her cheek. She puzzled for a moment, deciding what would be the best way to lead her out the exit and to their destination. Holding her hand or even linking their arms seemed… too forward. She coughed and brushed the back of her hand against the other girl’s arm. “My place isn’t that far from here so, uhm, follow the yellow-haired girl, I guess.” She began to walk towards the exit, glancing back to see if Rachel was indeed following.

Rachel giggled softly at Brittany. The girl was completely wasted, but the petite brunette found it to be quite adorable.
“You have enough stuff to hold you over for tonight?”, Brittany had asked, making Rachel’s smile drop and her cheeks blush bright red. She couldn’t believe she had forgot her suitcase at her old apartment. Now was too late to go and take it back, she would probably have to wait until the next day.
“Uhm…”, Rachel started quietly, looking away and blushing more, “I actually forgot my suitcase…”, she looked up at the blonde from behind her lashes, “Would you mind if I used one of your old pajamas for the night? I can’t go get my suitcase now, it’s way too late… I’m so sorry!”, she apologized, biting on her lower lip.
Brittany wrinkled her nose at Rachel, furrowing her brows and tilting her head to the side. “There’s no need to be sorry.” She shook her head gently, relaxing her expression. “I’m sure I have something you could fit.” Brittany considered her wardrobe for a second, which mainly consisted of tank tops and sweatpants, all of which would be quite baggy on the petite girl’s frame. She scanned Rachel’s figure and raised an eyebrow. Oh dear. “Well, we’ll see.” She smiled and prodded the smaller female’s shoulder.

Rachel smiled and blushed slightly when Brittany called her Rae. The petite brunette bit on her own lower lip, thinking whether they should dance or not. She glanced at her watch and realized it was extremely late already, plus the blonde was really drunk. So Rachel shook her head, offering the taller girl a soft smile, “We can go dancing next time. It’s really late already and you already drank too much, so we should get out of here.”, she said.
Next time.
Next time. Next time. Next time. The words danced in Brittany’s head and that was enough. Rachel was right, Brittany had way too much to drink, especially considering how much of a lightweight she was. She hiccuped, giggled, and hiccuped again, blushing slightly. “Sounds like a plan. You have enough stuff to hold you over for tonight? We can figure out all the details in the morning.” She could contact her landlord in the daylight and the three could arrange everything then. She smiled brightly, fighting the urge to twirl in excitement for her new companion. She settled with shimmying faintly.

Rachel giggled when the blonde girl giggled. Even though the girl was way taller than her, as well as an adult, she acted just like a child. The petite brunette had to admit to herself that this just made the blonde girl even more adorable. Rachel blushed slightly by her thoughts, but quickly forgot about then once the taller girl surprised her with yet another hug. She giggled softly and wrapped her arms tightly around the blonde girl.
“I’m Brittany, by the way, Brittany Susan Pierce. You can call me Britt, if you wish.”, the blonde girl had said, sticking out her hand. Rachel shook the other girl’s hand and smiled at her, “Nice to meet you, Brittany. I’m Rachel Barbra Berry, but you can call me Rach or Rae.”, she said, hoping Brittany would actually use one of her nicknames.
“Well, Rae, you wanna get out of here or do you want to stay and dance a bit?” She didn’t intend the words to come out like an invitation of some sort, well they were, but… She bit her lip. Rachel. She rolled the name around in her head. She liked it. Rachel Barbra Berry. Definitely suited to be lit up on a Broadway marquee.
She liked Rae even better, it suited her. Like a ray of sunshine in Brittany’s dreary night, peaking above the concrete city’s tall buildings, bringing in the morning. The night was slowly inching towards the day, but Brittany still waited for the other girl’s—Rachel’s—decision.

Rachel wrapped her arms tightly around the blond girl, rubbing her back soothingly. Once the taller girl held her hands, the petite brunette caressed the other girl’s hands with her thumbs, offering her a soft smile.
“You need a place to stay, right? You can stay with me!”, the blonde had said, surprising Rachel. She wasn’t sure about what to say. Sure, the blonde was really nice, but she was also highly intoxicated and they had just met.The petite brunette thought about politely declining the offer, but she really needed a place to stay and the taller girl sure looked excited about it. So after hesitating for a second, Rachel took a deep breath and nodded, “Sure, I mean, if you are okay with it and if it’s not going to bother you… I would appreciate staying at your place.”, she said, smiling.
Brittany squealed. She couldn’t help but release it as it bubbled up inside of her. Brittany shook her head vehemently, but stopped as it made her nauseous. “There’s no way you could bother me! Even if it doesn’t work out you can just stay until you’ve found a new place. Oh, this is going to be awesome!” She gathered the tiny girl in her arms again. The taller girl would have attempted to lift her if she hadn’t been wary of her own inebriated state. Brittany freed the girl of her grip, suddenly abashed at her action. She was going to scare the girl away. This girl whom she had just met. This girl who had agreed to live with her. This girl… who didn’t even know Brittany’s name. The blonde smacked her own forehead dully in annoyance of her carelessness. She stuck out her hand, trying to accumulate a calm business like air about her, which was difficult after so many drinks. “I’m Brittany, by the way, Brittany Susan Pierce. You can call me Britt, if you wish.”

Rachel looked sadly at the blonde in front of her, and bit her own lower lip. She would never have guessed that such a talented girl had had such struggles in her life. The petite brunette took the blonde’s hand in hers, squeezing it gently and caressing the back of the girl’s hand with her thumb. “Well, in my opinion you are one of the most talented dancers I’ve ever seen.”, Rachel smiled softly at the girl. “And I took classes for years, so I know what I’m talking about.”, she winked.
She hesitated for a second before leaning forward and hugging the taller girl. “I’m sure you will be extremely successful and famous.”, she said quietly next to the blonde’s ear.
Brittany licked her lips, an old nervous habit, as the brunette took hold of her hand. She smiled back, a barely there smile but a smile nevertheless, trying hard to control her emotions. This girl made her want to bare her soul and she knew that wasn’t the alcohol this time. She joked and winked at Brittany and the blonde’s heart somehow managed to slow, this strange girl, no longer a stranger, calmed her. Soothed Brittany, so when she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around the taller girl, she relaxed into the hug, lips parting as she exhaled a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “I’m sure you will be extremely successful and famous.” She squeezed the other girl tightly, hoping her gratitude was received. Brittany could have stayed like that all night, but as her head cleared a bit more, she remembered an earlier thought. Releasing the smaller girl from the hug, but latching onto her hands to steady herself, she smiled exuberantly.
“You need a place to stay, right? You can stay with me!” She hopped from foot to foot excitedly. “Well, at least until you find a better option.” Brittany bopped her head from side to side looking like an excited puppy. She could be down with being this girl’s dog.

The blonde’s head was too fuzzy to register the brunette’s positive reaction, instead she kept her head ducked until the other female spoke. Only then did she glance at her again, registering the way she bit down on her lower lip before she spoke, seeming nervous. Confidence and what appeared to be pride stomped any traces of the other emotions down. The shorter girl’s conviction stirred a curiosity in Brittany. She had a sudden desire to know more about this girl. “So, do you have any professional training under your belt? I know it’s expensive from experience. You gotta have supportive parents for that.” She tipped her nearly empty bottle towards her, blowing a piece of hair out of her eyes before sighing softly.
Rachel giggled softly, “Yes, my dads provided me with acting, singing, and dancing classes since I was a toddler.”, she smiled. “Tell me more about you though, I’m curious.”, the short brunette said, gently touching the blonde’s thigh and giving the girl her undivided attention.
Brittany couldn’t help feel instantly better as a giggle bubbled up from this stranger. Dads? As in plural? This girl was getting more interesting by the second. But she would have to wait to learn more. Patience was key, that’s something that Brittany had always understood. She had to be patient to earn and save enough money to pay for her ballet classes and eventually hip hop classes throughout middle and high school. “Wow. Regular prodigy, hey?” She recalled her own childhood, relaying it to the attentive girl. “I grew up with my mom, she couldn’t afford the dance classes and even if she could…” She trailed off, shutting her eyes for a brief moment. “She didn’t think I would make it—could make it. I had to raise my own money, I guess it made me learn that not everything comes easy in life. You gotta work hard, y’know?” She paused, downing the last of her drink. “It would have been nice to have her there at recitals… I’m still out to prove her wrong. That’s how I ended up here, with the best of the best, right?”
She swallowed in an attempt to discourage the tears pricking at her eyes, laughing them off shakily. She had meant the last part to come out as a compliment, a subtle joke, it instead came out unsure, traces of sarcasm tainting the words. This was precisely why one night stands never made it past her living room, she would get flirty, get attached, and end up emotional, sobbing on her couch while they snuck out the apartment door. Brittany shook her head slightly at herself, gathering her emotions. But this girl was different, this girl was a friend. Although the hand on her thigh confused the already fuddled girl slightly.
Rachel scrunched up her nose slightly, making a disgusted face, “This is not a nice environment.”. When she felt the blonde’s touch, Rachel shivered pleasantly, letting a small gasp escape and biting down on her own lower lip hard as she felt her face heating up, meaning that she was probably blushing. She didn’t mean to feel that way, but the blonde was indeed gorgeous and the alcohol wasn’t helping her much either.
“I bet you’re really good; you have a great smile, one meant to be plastered on billboards.”, the blonde had said.
The brunette blushed brighter, ducking her head slightly in an attempt to hide her blush, “Uhm, thank you, I really like your smile too.”, she said softly, nibbling on her lower lip.”Well, I do believe I am quite good at singing.”, Rachel said, raising her head, “I’ve been practicing for years.”
